In 1999 Coach Sam Lovello was inducted into the PIAA Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame. He has also been inducted into the Berks County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame and the District III Hall of Fame.

Dante Desiderio '81

As a four year letter winner, Dante had a career record of 105-9-1. He was the first Berks County wrestler to reach 100 wins. He went undefeated in dual meet competition during his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons as he became a three time sectional champion and two time District III champion. In state competition, Dante placed third twice and was a state semi-finalist twice. He earned a scholarship to the University of Maryland. A member of the Berks County Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame, he was also named to the Berks County All Time Dream Team.

Robert VanSyckle '64

VanSyckle was an outstanding wrestler and member of Brandywine's entry team into the Berks Wrestling League. He was a member of Kutztown University's first wrestling program. More important than his wrestling prowess were his contributions to the Brandywine Heights Wrestling Program. During the '70's when consideration was being given to dropping the program due to its lack of success, VanSyckle established an elementary and junior high developmental program. As an unpaid assistant coach, the program he organized produced a 73-22-7 varsity record. His commitment and actions helped to save the wrestling program and provided the springboard to success within the sport that Brandywine has maintained over the past twenty years.

Bruce Herman '80

Bruce distinguished himself as an outstanding high school and college wrestler. He earned eight varsity letters. As a four year starter her posted a 78-21-1 record. In the sectional wrestling tournament, he finished third as a sophomore, and first as a junior and senior. He was a three time Berks County All Star and placed third twice at the District III meet. In his senior year he placed fourth at the State Tournament. Brandywine posted a 55-7-1 record during the four years of his varsity wrestling. As a member of the KU wrestling team and wrestling a Division I schedule, Bruce posted a record of 101-28, a record that still stands today! Herman is a member of the Berks County Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame as well as the Kutztown University Hall of Fame.

George Cherrie '78

George was the first of what would become a long line of distinguished Brandywine qualifiers for the PIAA State Wrestling Tournament. He posted a record of 55-8 during his four years of wrestling. He was a two-time sectional champion and was voted to The Reading Eagle-Times All Decade Wrestling Team of the 1970's. He wrestled for three years in the Division I program at Wilkes University and then became an assistant coach at Brandywine for four years, at Wilson High School for two years and then head wrestling coach at Albright College.

Rick Hillegass '67

Hillegass was the first of a long line of dominant wrestling champions. In 1966 he became the first wrestler to compete in the Berks County Wrestling League to reach the District Finals, at a time when there was but single size classification and starting at Sectionals, the PIAA Tournament was a single elimination event. Hillegass lost to the eventual state champion and was eliminated. Rick was undefeated in Berks County wrestling competition during his junior and senior years.

John Cherrie '83

John was one of the finest wrestlers to compete for the Brandywine program. He was a four-year varsity letter winner from 1980-1983. He was team captain his junior and senior years. Cherrie was a three time sectional medalist, placing second, third, and first. He won consecutive District III Championships in 1982 and 1983. During his senior year he registered pins in five different weight classes and in 1981 set a school record by pinning an opponent in ten seconds. John finished his career with 90 wins, the third highest total in Berks County at that time. Cherrie proceeded to wrestle for Wilkes College at the NCAA Division 1-A level.

John Halulko '93

John is one of the storied Brandywine Heights High School wrestling program's all-time greats. He was the first Brandywine wrestler to earn three state medals, finishing in sixth place twice as well as fourth place. He was a three-time Governor Mifflin Tournament Champion and was named MVP for three years. An outstanding wrestler at Princeton University, he was the leading point scorer for three years and a three-time Academic All American.

Bill Hordendorf '82

Hordendorf was an all around athlete, earning his greatest acclaim as a wrestler. In three years of varsity wrestling he posted a record of 89-17-2. Bill was a two-time Sectional Champion as well as a two-time South Central Regional Runner-up. In 1983 as a Regional Champion, he became a three-time State Qualifier, where he placed fourth. He was a Governor Mifflin Tournament Champion and its Outstanding Wrestler. Bill was named to the All County Team three times, earned eight varsity letters, and in 1982, won the Players' Player Award.
